Hello everyone, today we're going to take a look at some of the 2D art in the game, and the artists who created it - giving a small peak at some of the wider city decoration and content shown on Junko's TV - which is essentially her window to the outside world when she isolates.

On Your Screen

The TV in Junkos living room is both an escape from reality for her when she plays Fantasy Boy, and the source of a lot of anxiety when ideal livelihoods are broadcast to her, with advertising driving a societal pressure and lifestyle that is perfect on the surface, but soul destroying underneath. Much like real life advertising at face value is little more than an annoyance at the best of times, but when exposed to repeatedly in an already delicate and fragile mental state - it becomes another way that your own self worth can be measured, and a stick to beat yourself with.

Fantasy Boy

Speaking of Fantasy Boy, Junkos favourite game has an entirely different visual style (it is a game within a game after all!) The game itself is based off the simple 2d platformers of old - and as such Luca de Benedictis (AKA NUSSODIGITAL) was brought on board to lend their striking style to bring Fantasy Boy to life! In The City... (WIP) :

Don't Lie doesn't just take place in Junko's apartment however, and some of the liminal spaces her journey takes her to are more recognisable than others, even if they are twisted facsimiles of her own memories and experiences. An example of this is the poster decoration within some cityscape, which brings a familiar feeling to those who have played Don't Watch. We thought it would be nice to share a little of the 'sketchwork' through to panel and current work in progress on this one :)

Ruedefaux is the artist who's creating these and can be found at : https://x.com/Ruedefaux

These are only a few of the artists lending their unique styles and talents across the multiple visual angles of Don't Lie! We'll share more and updates on WIP artwork in the future!
