the new 0.7.3 Alpha update for Broken Crown is now available.

This release adds new tactical options, improves readability during battles, refines economy and construction systems, expands control settings, and introduces a rather unexpected visitor to the battlefield.

Yes.

Sir Cluckington is now in the game.

Sir Cluckington Has Arrived

A rare new easter egg can now appear during your matches.

Nobody knows where Sir Cluckington came from. Nobody knows why he has entered a battlefield filled with armies, walls, siege attempts, and hungry soldiers.

But he is there.

Players who encounter Sir Cluckington can unlock dedicated achievements connected to this mysterious chicken.

He is not part of any faction. He does not answer to a king. He simply appears when he chooses to.

Keep your eyes open.

New Defensive Stance

A new Defensive Stance command has been added.

This gives players another tactical option when holding territory, protecting important units, defending chokepoints, or preparing for an enemy attack.

Defensive Stance is designed to provide more control over how troops behave in critical moments, helping armies maintain their position instead of reacting too aggressively.

Better Battlefield Readability

Several improvements have been added to make units easier to track during large-scale battles.

  • Units can now be highlighted when they are hidden behind terrain, buildings, or other environmental elements

  • The selected unit information panel has been improved

  • A panel for control groups has been added

  • Camera zoom behavior has been refined for more reliable battlefield control

These updates should make it easier to follow your units, react during combat, and maintain control when the battlefield becomes crowded.

Improved RTS Controls and Hotkeys

The game now includes a clearer set of RTS shortcuts and control group support.

Players can use hotkeys for camera movement, construction, research, recruitment, formations, map controls, objectives, and unit groups.

Control groups can be assigned with Ctrl + 1–9 and recalled with 1–9, making army management faster and more comfortable during intense matches.

The current shortcuts are also now displayed in the settings and controls menu.

Economy, Food and Resource Improvements

This update includes several improvements to the economy and resource systems.

  • Resource harvesting has been rebalanced

  • Fixed farm interaction when collecting resources

  • Troop food consumption and starvation mechanics have been added

  • Building times for the Market and Defensive Tower have been adjusted

  • Fixed construction issues when attempting to place buildings over resources

These changes make economic planning more important and help improve the pacing of expansion, defense, and army growth.

Construction and Building Placement Fixes

Building placement and fortification feedback have received several important fixes.

  • Removed placement hitboxes from buildings that have not yet been constructed

  • Fixed wall and gate placement behavior when using building ghosts

  • Improved construction validation around resources and terrain

  • Refined building timing for key structures

This should make construction more reliable and reduce situations where placement feedback feels unclear or inconsistent.

King Debuff and Gameplay Balance

A new debuff system for the King has been introduced.

This adds another layer of tactical decision-making around leadership units and reinforces the importance of protecting key units during battle.

Visual and Quality-of-Life Improvements

This release also adds several smaller but meaningful improvements:

  • Added tree falling animations

  • Improved fallback localization handling

  • Added audio settings to the pause menu

  • Added camera speed settings, allowing players to adjust camera movement to their preferred pace

  • Fixed an issue that could prevent save games from being deleted correctly

  • Added better support for demo and release environments

  • General fixes and stability improvements across gameplay systems

Final Notes

The 0.7.3 Alpha update focuses on making Broken Crown more tactical, readable, and enjoyable to control.

From defensive formations and improved unit visibility to economy balancing, construction fixes, food management, and a mysterious chicken wandering across the battlefield, this update adds both meaningful gameplay improvements and a little unexpected personality to the game.

Thank you for playing and supporting Broken Crown.

And remember:

If you hear clucking during a battle…

Do not panic.

It may already be too late.Steam post imageSteam post image
