Letter from the Producer #1: Greetings and the Start of Brigandine Abyss (Part 1) Hello, everyone. I'm Masaru Saito, the producer of Brigandine Abyss, and I'm also in charge of these producer letters. Thank you for your interest in our game. Every game has its incidents on the path to completion. Brigandine Abyss was no different, and there are still things popping up here and there even now. I'd like to tell you about the game systems, characters, and world, as well as share some things that came up during development. For April, I'm going to think back and describe how the project got started. If I recall correctly, it was in the spring of 2022. It had been two years since the previous game, Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia, came out for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, when we released it on Steam. The sales of the Steam version were higher than expected, which became a turning point that kick-started plans for a new Brigandine project. Between you and me, a certain "Masaru Saito" said he didn't have high expectations for sales of the Steam release, since the game was two years old. Thanks to that success, in-house enthusiasm for starting a new Brigandine project picked up fast. And this "Masaru Saito" had begun forming plans of his own... Check out the next letter for more.
Letter from the Producer #2: Game Modes and How it Started (Part 2) Hello there. I'm Masaru Saito, the producer of Brigandine Abyss. I'm going to try my best to update this page every day (on weekdays, anyway). I rarely get sick, but I am highly prone to work stress, so I'm not 100% sure I'll be able to manage to do that... In any case, this time I'd like to give you some extra information about the game modes featured in Brigandine Abyss posted on our official website. Two modes are included: Story Mode and Mission Mode. In Story Mode, you can play through the stories of six nations, while in Mission Mode, you choose from one of 24 nations to complete objectives. Because there are so many stories and missions, some of you probably think that you need to clear them in order... But don't worry! You can choose freely between the stories and missions, and there are 20 save slots, so you can play multiple stories and missions simultaneously. Now, let's continue from where we left off with "The Start of Brigandine Abyss." In 2022, enthusiasm for a new Brigandine project was picking up quickly, but several months passed without any progress. However, at the time, our protagonist, Masaru Saito, was part of the promotion team, not the development team. "Isn't anyone going to move forward with a new Brigandine project? Maybe I should just write a proposal myself," he wondered. In between his promotional duties, he secretly began writing up a proposal, but wasn't sure where to start... Letter from the Producer #3: Story Mode and How it Started (Part 3) Hello, there. I'm Masaru Saito, the producer of Brigandine Abyss. This time, I'd like to talk a bit more about Story Mode, which is the main mode in Brigandine Abyss. It tells the story of six nations rebelling against the evil New Abyssloa Empire, which was suddenly established through a coup. You choose one of the six nations and play through its unique story. Brigandine Abyss has no connections to characters or stories from past titles. One of the defining features of this series is the completely original stories contained in the previous game and the one before that, so I really want to make it clear that you can jump in and enjoy it whether you're a first-time player or series veteran. Now, let's continue from where we left off with "The Start of Brigandine Abyss." I had secretly begun writing up a proposal for a new Brigandine, but I wasn't sure where to go with it. So, I started by reading reviews of the previous game, Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia. I carefully read through both the complimentary and scathing ones, and remember feeling really motivated to start work on another game in the series! Check out the next letter for more.
Letter from the Producer #4: Difficulty Settings and How it Started (Part 4) Hello there. I'm Masaru Saito, the producer of Brigandine Abyss. There are two modes in the game: Story Mode, which contains 6 story lines, and Mission Mode, where you choose one of 24 nations and complete its missions. This time, I'd like to talk a bit about the difficulty of these modes. Both let you choose from Easy, Normal, or Hard when you begin. While each mode has its own difficulty level, you can also set the global difficulty at the start. So, even if you are new to simulation games, you can rest assured that difficulty settings are available. I'll leave the specifics of the difficulty levels for another time. Now, let's continue from where we left off with "The Start of Brigandine Abyss." After reading a ton of reviews for Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia to help with my secret proposal, my next step was to dive into simulation games. I found interesting ones and bought a variety of them. I wanted to use them as a reference, so I bought and played as many as I could. I distinctly remember purposefully neglecting to check my credit card statements... Man, how much did I spend? Check out the next letter for more.
