Playspacing: Why Did We Get Rid of It?
Playspacing (moving IRL & in-game simultaneously to gain an unfair advantage) has been a thing in Breachers for a long time, and we're aware that it's used a lot amongst high level, competitive & league players. We also understand many of you don’t mind or even love it.
Unfortunately, playspacing has a significant negative impact on the game:
Playspacing actively hurts player retention, driving away new players.
Playspacing is the main cause of "cheating/hacking" reports (almost every time a claim like this is made, it is a playspacing player), which impacts the reputation of the game.
Playspacing provides people with a massive advantage over people who (for example) don't have the room, or the ability to abuse it.
For all the reasons above, we decided a fix was necessary. Together with our beta players, we have tested the fix, which was successful. For many of you, this might be an unwelcome change, but if you want the game to grow and survive, it’s a necessary one. We made sure that in normal play, this fix won’t affect your experience. Only people who try to playspace will notice the impact.
Player Suggestions & Voting
It's been two weeks since we introduced Betahub instead of Discord forums. We're still getting to know the ins & outs as we settle into this system. However, we've noticed a bit of a misunderstanding in the expectations the community suggestions set.
Historically, we've used the suggestions to act as a guide when assembling roadmaps, carving a path forward for the game. This will not change. Your suggestions do quite literally shape the game's direction. That being said, providing a suggestion (even when it’s a popular one) doesn't automatically mean it'll be implemented. With developing games, there are a lot of factors to consider, and so, what we want to do, doesn't always align with what we can, or should do, especially since resources aren't infinite.
With that in mind, for 2025, we are striving to implement everything that is currently on the new roadmap. In terms of new suggestions, the smaller the scope (think more QOL oriented ideas), the more likely we can fit it in somewhere. The larger in scope, the more unlikely things become, BUT these could be ideas we can consider for a future roadmap.
Now, if you haven't yet, check out the #bugs-and-suggest-btn channel to suggest your ideas, and click the "Full Suggestions List" button to cast your VOTE(S) on ideas you like. You can easily log in with your Discord account, no separate accounts are needed!
Thank you for reading, thank you for playing, and keep an eye out for the next update! Cheers, and HAPPY BREACHING!
