- Gameplay
Hi Steam community! It’s time for another peek behind the curtain of the development of Blighted.
We’re trying to build a gameplay-focused experience with this game, so we’re leaning into environmental storytelling and game mechanics to help communicate our narrative as much as possible. That said, you won’t be entirely alone in the game’s weird world.
Here’s a quick look at a few of the non-playable characters you’ll encounter on your journey:

The Iron Mule
Originally enslaved by the Tycoon, the Mule used his cunning to sneak through secret passages around the world. He carries Blight, but he’s made the conscious decision to eat brains no more.
The Iron Mule offers you advice from time to time at Watcher’s Peak.
The Shaman
A hermit of few words. The Shaman wears a mysterious helmet that protects its wearer's brains from being devoured after death.
His knowledge of potions and rare ingredients could prove useful in your quest.
The Widow
The Widow mourns the loss of her husband, whose brain is sought by bandits. She's worried that if she buries him, the bandits will dig him out. To protect him, she carries his corpse on her back.
The Widow shares her expertise with weaponry as part of her husband's legacy.
The Blind Bandit
Not just any bandit mind you, this is the Great Baltus, Chieftain of Bone Bridge, although perhaps not for long. The once-feared brain-stealing bandit is at a crossroads: without his vision, he'll be excommunicated from his gang–even devoured. That is the bandit's way. He’s taken a liking to you because you smell like a bandit.

…and that’s all we’re ready to share about NPCs for now! Please keep in mind that this is just a sneak-peek of a work-in-progress version of these characters.
Development Status Update
We recently hit a major internal milestone, and everyone on the team is working on a fresh playtest of the latest full build. We’ll be using feedback from that playtest to guide development going forward. We also recently brought on a couple of new team members to help on the project. We’re excited with where things are headed!
