changedFor anyone just finding the game: you sit down with four scripts that technically work, in the same way a spoon will technically dig a tunnel, and an anonymous contact who needs files from places they really shouldn't be. You read the code. You rewrite it. You get better. That's the whole loop - and it's why I built a real scripting language instead of handing you a menu of pre-made hacks.
changedI also want to call out the #blackdoor Discord specifically. The bug reports, the "hey, this is weird" messages, people helping each other with their scripts before I've even seen the question, quality-of-life ideas I'd never have found on my own that ended up shipping - the game's genuinely better than it was before this server existed, and that's on you, not me. What's ahead:
changedSteam Workshop - publish your scripts, or build entire custom campaigns with your own servers, missions, and story, and let the world try to hack them
changedMore servers, more side jobs, more ways to get traced

Blackdoor just hit 1,000 wishlists on Steam! Thank you - genuinely, it means a lot. This has been one person building this for way too many hours at a stretch, and every one of those wishlists is proof it wasn't just me who thought that sounded worth building.

For anyone just finding the game: you sit down with four scripts that technically work, in the same way a spoon will technically dig a tunnel, and an anonymous contact who needs files from places they really shouldn't be. You read the code. You rewrite it. You get better. That's the whole loop - and it's why I built a real scripting language instead of handing you a menu of pre-made hacks.

The demo's been up since April, if you haven't tried it yet - three story missions, a finale, six side jobs from IRC regulars, a few things hidden that the mission list won't tell you about, and enough rope to write your own port scanner from scratch if you're that kind of player.

I also want to call out the #blackdoor Discord specifically. The bug reports, the "hey, this is weird" messages, people helping each other with their scripts before I've even seen the question, quality-of-life ideas I'd never have found on my own that ended up shipping - the game's genuinely better than it was before this server existed, and that's on you, not me. What's ahead:

  • Full launch - August 6th, 2026

  • The complete story campaign, start to finish

  • Steam Workshop - publish your scripts, or build entire custom campaigns with your own servers, missions, and story, and let the world try to hack them

  • Steam leaderboards, badges, and achievements

  • More servers, more side jobs, more ways to get traced

And launch isn't the finish line either - I've already got plans for what comes after it.

If you're not one of the 1,000 yet, now's a good time to fix that.

See you in #blackdoor.
