Hi, all.

A Deluxe version of Beyond the Mountains will be available later this month. I've essentially rebuilt the entire game from scratch using the upcoming sequel's engine. Below are some of the updated features I'm most proud of implementing.

  • Functional inventory screen

  • 2 brand new items, including one item that allows you to shift from a 2d plane to a 3d plane

  • The overworld is further polished and most of the dungeons have been completely remixed

  • The bosses have been updated or altogether changed from the original game

  • Combat feels punchier and more strategic

  • The HUD has been updated to look cleaner

  • Misc. special effects have been added for a more breathable environment (coin pickup, etc).

  • All sprites are now animated

  • Many tiles have been polished and given more detail

  • Additional cutscenes and content

I know that the original game was a little janky, so I tried to maintain that same tone while also cleaning up a lot of the stuff that felt unfair or punishing. Some of the puzzles can be a little obtuse. I plan on releasing a walkthrough in early May that will give you the tools you need in case you get stuck somewhere.

The Deluxe update will allow you to play the first few minutes of the upcoming sequel. There will also be a link included to the Steam page where you can wishlist the upcoming game. The sequel is much larger and will be available near the end of the year.

This Deluxe update is set to be released by the end of the month. I imagine it will have a few bugs in it that went unnoticed by me. Be sure to leave me a comment for any bugs you might notice. I'm only one hobby developer, so it's difficult for me to catch everything on so many different operating systems.

Thank you and have a great rest of your week.

Eric
