Hi, all.
I am in the process of wrapping up the Deluxe update of Beyond the Mountains. Beyond the Mountains Deluxe will be a free final update with the intention of seamlessly transitioning players from the first game to the upcoming sequel.
Beyond the Mountains Deluxe includes a serious amount of polish to meet the standards of the sequel. I have essentially rebuilt the first game from scratch using the second game's engine to ensure a smooth and seamless transition between both games. This new update should work on all computers and even the Steam Deck.
Below are various screenshots of the free upcoming Deluxe update. I hope to have Beyond the Mountains Deluxe published by April 2026.
All graphics in the Deluxe update have been modified to be more consistent with the upcoming sequel.
An inventory menu has been added in the Deluxe update to seamlessly transition between various items. The melodica has been replaced with a guitar item. There are other new items as well.
All caves and dungeons have been completely overhauled to better accommodate the items found on your journey. Your items will have additional uses as well.
New lands and items will be available in the Deluxe update. The plot will be modified to better accommodate the transition to the sequel.
You will have the ability to play the first ten minutes of the sequel to Beyond the Mountains after completing the Deluxe update. There will be secrets that link both games.
As previously stated, I hope to have the Beyond the Mountains Deluxe update published by the end of April. The Deluxe edition's updates are so substantial that the save files will be incompatible with the current version's save files. Once the Deluxe update is published, it will be the only version of Beyond the Mountains. If you wish to play the original Beyond the Mountains before the Deluxe update, please do so before the end of April.
Although Beyond the Mountains Deluxe will substantially change the gameplay and roughness of the original, the core essence of the original game will remain intact. I tried my best to maintain the goofy and janky charm of the original while polishing some of the rougher edges. Thus, there will still be some opaque and abstract parts of the game that I did not adjust.
A free spoiler-heavy walkthrough of Beyond the Mountains Deluxe will be published on Steam when the game launches.
It is my intention that Beyond the Mountains Deluxe remains a free-to-play game. Beyond the Mountains II will be a paid game. It will offer substantially more content than the first game. I hope the demo gives you the briefest taste of what's to come. Beyond the Mountains II will be released by the end of the year.
That's all for now. I will talk with you soon!
Eric
