Battle for the Hill | Major Systems Update Steam post image

Throughout 2026, Battle for the Hill has received one of its largest collections of updates yet. Transitioning the older "classic" frontend & backend systems was an arduous task, but we managed to release it at the beginning of Q1 2026, specifically January, 2026. Since then we have released many updates, and are currently optimizing gameplay to further align with USA + most other world countries.

Updates included but are not limited to expanding the political, economic, diplomatic, electoral, judicial, and social systems across the game while also introducing major quality-of-life improvements, UI upgrades, balance changes, and LOTS bug fixes.

There is a lot to cover, so let's start. Major updates will include their own posts with accompanying images.

🏭 UNIONS & LABOR LAWS

Unions have received a major expansion with a new system of national and state-level labor laws.

Available labor policies now include:

  • Unions Banned — Purges unionized corporate workplaces and state-sector claims, ends active strikes, and prevents new organizing.

  • Right to Work — Makes organizing more difficult and strikes more expensive.

  • Basic Union Protections — Maintains the standard union system.

  • Strong Union Protections — Makes organizing easier and reduces organizing costs.

  • Sympathy Strikes Allowed — Improves organizing and provides additional strike benefits.

  • Closed Shop — Significantly strengthens unions, reduces costs, removes certain membership approval requirements, and blocks union busting.

Additional union changes include:

  • Neighboring-state organizing bonuses.

  • Unions can abandon organized sectors.

  • Unions with no organized sectors can relocate their headquarters and change industry type.

  • Congress can pass legislation restricting union lobbying for politicians.

🏛️ NATIONALIZATION & ECONOMIC SANCTIONS

Governments now have more direct tools to intervene in their economies.

Nationalization

Countries can now pass legislation to nationalize entire economic sectors.

When a sector is nationalized:

  • All private and unclaimed portions of that sector are transferred into a sovereign investment fund.

  • The sector is administered by the Secretary/Minister of the Treasury.

  • Private corporations are not compensated.

  • State-run sectors operate less efficiently than privately operated corporations.

If nationalization is later reversed, those sectors return to the country's unclaimed national sector pool.

Economic Sanctions

Governments can now sanction foreign corporations.

Sanctions can:

  • Block a corporation from purchasing new sectors in the country.

  • Freeze its local economic activity.

  • Return its domestic sectors to the national pool.

🌎 DIPLOMACY EXPANSION

International relations have received several major new systems.

Bilateral Ambassadors

Countries can now establish bilateral ambassadors.

  • Countries must first establish an embassy.

  • Ambassadors are nominated by the President or Prime Minister.

  • Appointments require legislative confirmation.

  • Ambassadors receive a salary.

  • Ambassadors may hold other compatible government positions.

  • The Secretary of State or Minister of Foreign Affairs serves as the default representative when no ambassador is appointed.

International Organizations

International organizations now have a more formal approval process.

  • Creating an international organization requires legislative approval.

  • Joining an international organization requires two votes:

    1. Approval from the country's legislature.

    2. Approval from the international organization itself.

  • Organization-related bills have been standardized to 24 hours.

  • Additional organization law options have been seeded into the game.

⚖️ COURTS & JUDICIAL APPOINTMENTS

The judicial system has received several important changes.

Inaugural Presidential Appointments

Initial court appointments are now handled directly in-game rather than through meta appointments.

Following the first presidential election:

  • The losing side receives 5 Supreme Court appointments and a majority of Circuit Court appointments.

  • The winning side receives 4 Supreme Court appointments, a minority of Circuit Court appointments, the Federal Circuit appointment, and the Chief Justice appointment.

  • These inaugural appointments do not require Senate confirmation.

  • The inaugural appointment period expires 24 hours after the conclusion of the first presidential election.

Judicial Activity

  • Judges inactive for more than 7 days can now be removed from their seats.

🗳️ ELECTIONS & GOVERNMENT

Several major changes have been made to elections and government systems.

Presidential Election Certification

At the conclusion of presidential elections, Congress will now receive an election certification bill to vote on.

Veto Overrides

Presidential vetoes now return legislation to both legislative chambers.

A veto can be overridden with a two-thirds majority in each chamber.

Fusion Tickets

Presidential nominees can now select a running mate from outside their own party.

Non-party VP nominees cannot participate in the same way as normal VP candidates until the general election begins.

Incumbent Primary Advantage

Incumbents are now automatically re-entered into their party's primary without paying the normal PC or CF entry cost.

They may still withdraw or enter another election, but doing so will not receive the free-entry benefit.

Governor Rally Support

Governors now have a special role in presidential general elections.

Presidential campaigns can request a rally with the incumbent governor. If the governor accepts, the rally provides a stronger benefit than a standard campaign rally.

Additional Election Changes

  • Players are notified when an opponent enters an election they were previously uncontested in.

  • Senior Senators receive slightly more Political Capital.

  • Presidents in presidential-system countries can now simultaneously hold an MP seat and the presidency, excluding the United States.

  • Alternate accounts may enter presidential primaries when the user's other accounts are located in a different country.

👑 MONARCHY SYSTEM

A new monarchy government system has been introduced, beginning with Saudi Arabia.

Under the current system:

  • Parliament acts as an advisory body.

  • Parliament nominates and elects the monarch.

  • The monarch rules independently of the parliamentary party in power.

  • Monarchs can resign.

  • Monarchs are subject to a death-roll mechanic.

This system is currently limited to Saudi Arabia but establishes the foundation for future monarchy mechanics.

🎉 PARTIES & POLITICAL INFLUENCE

Political parties have received several significant changes.

Party Drift

Party positions can now dynamically change based on their membership.

Party ideology is weighted:

  • 50% from the party's founding positions.

  • 50% from the positions of active party members.

Party Influence

A new party influence system has been introduced.

The game now more clearly identifies NPC accounts, and party member interfaces explain how supporting players can increase their influence within the party.

This system will continue to be expanded in future updates.

Additional Party Changes

  • Players can request funds directly from their party in-game.

  • Party and caucus chairs can add custom background and banner images.

  • Custom parties are no longer dissolved for falling below five members.

  • A custom party must now be completely empty before it is dissolved.

  • State party distribution hard caps have been removed.

  • The 20% party quorum requirement for Congressional leadership, whip nominations, and NGA positions has been removed.

  • The same user can no longer contest national party leadership in multiple parties within the same country.

🤖 NPC SYSTEM CHANGES

NPC access has been reworked.

The current NPC formula is based on:

Activated Provinces − Players in Your Party = Available NPCs

The system also now considers the political environment more dynamically rather than permanently limiting NPC access to default parties.

NPC accounts are also more clearly identified throughout the interface.

🏢 CORPORATIONS & ECONOMY

Several corporate and economic systems have been updated.

  • Corporations can change their country headquarters beginning in 2030.

    • Interest rates.

    • Remaining duration.

  • Pension enactment-state behavior has been fixed.

💰 FUNDRAISING & DONORS

Players can exchange Political Capital for Campaign Funds at a rate of:

1 PC → 1,000 CF

  • Profile pictures.

  • Party logos.

  • Other image uploads across the game.

  • Japan has received additional player slots.

  • Countries with fewer than six players can use expanded multi-appointment options for cabinet positions.

  • Players moving to another country receive a 24-hour grace period to change parties without penalty.

  • Players moving countries can receive starting Campaign Funds similar to a newly activated country, subject to a 7-day cooldown to prevent abuse.
