Hello everyone!

While Europa remains frozen, summer has taken over the northern hemisphere of planet Earth. As is custom, we will soon be heading out for our summer break, but not before the traditional Barotrauma Summer Update.

Summer Update 2026

This update is centered around submarines, and you can look forward to five reworked vanilla subs: The Tier 2 submarines Humpback, Azimuth, Orca 2, Typhon and Herja have been balanced and updated with fixes, usability improvements and spruced-up visuals.

In keeping with the theme of submarine improvements, here comes a long-awaited one: You can now back up your custom subs on Steam Cloud to prevent losing them in case something goes wrong. Find this new option in the submarine editor’s save dialogue.

The update also introduces a number of other fixes and nifty improvements, such as:

  • Fixed security (or anyone else) not reacting to attacking stunned/incapacitated characters.

  • Fixed an exploit that allowed modified clients to cause other clients to eventually get out of sync and disconnect.

  • Additions/improvements to console commands (teleportsub, spawncharacter, spawnitem)

  • Fixed monster attacks that run over time (e.g. when fractal guardians fire the steam cannon) causing an excessive amount of network usage in multiplayer

  • Fixed bots being unable to extinguish fires in connected subs (e.g. in Remora's drone).

Coming next week

Stay tuned for this release early next week, and until then you can already test drive it in the Unstable beta!
