Backrooms Maze 2D changes
The Main Mode Update Is Available Now
I want to sincerely thank everyone who has bought, played, or supported Backrooms Maze 2D. Knowing that people have spent their time playing something I created genuinely means a lot to me, and I appreciate every person who has given the game a chance.
After months of rebuilding, testing, creating new artwork, and adding new systems, the largest Backrooms Maze 2D update so far is now available.
This is much more than a small content update. The game has been rebuilt on a new native C++ foundation and now includes an entirely new way to play.
🔦 New Main Mode
Wake up in near-total darkness with only a flashlight to guide you.
Explore a newly generated maze, search for the key, locate the exit, and avoid the entity hunting through the halls.
Explore the Backrooms from a closer perspective • Use your flashlight to reveal the maze around you • Find the key and complete your objectives • Search for the exit before the entity finds you • Listen for nearby movement and signs of danger • Escape before you are caught
🕹️ Arcade Mode
The original full-maze experience remains available as Arcade Mode.
Navigate the entire maze from above, manage your sanity, avoid roaming enemies, and reach the green exit before you are caught.
Arcade Mode still includes four difficulty levels:
Easy • Normal • Hard • Extreme
🛠️ Rebuilt From the Ground Up
Backrooms Maze 2D has been rebuilt from its previous Electron and JavaScript version into a native C++ game using SFML.
This new foundation allowed me to rebuild and expand many parts of the game, including:
Player movement and collision • Procedural maze generation • Enemy movement and behavior • Animation systems • Audio systems • Menus and interface • Settings and localization • Main Mode and Classic Arcade Mode
✨ New and Updated Features
Completely new Main Mode • New player artwork • New enemy artwork • Directional player animations • Directional enemy animations • Flashlight-based exploration • Key and exit objectives • Procedurally generated mazes • Enemy roaming, searching, and chase behavior • New objective display • Updated menus and interface • New atmospheric audio • New footsteps and enemy sounds • New victory and defeat effects • Updated settings menu • Four Arcade Mode difficulty levels • Classic sanity system • Quick restarts after winning or losing • Interface support for 27 languages • New Steam artwork • New screenshots • New release trailer
This update represents a major new direction for Backrooms Maze 2D, and I am extremely happy to finally share it.
Thank you again for supporting the game. Feedback and bug reports are always appreciated, and I will continue releasing patches and improvements when needed.
👁️ Enter the maze. Stay alert. Do not trust the darkness.
