Demo update: the second batch of polish before July 24

Here's the second batch of the polish work we promised. Most of it is one thing: we tore out the old settings menu and built a new one from scratch. The rest is smaller fixes all over the demo.

Here's the second batch of the polish work we promised. Most of it is one thing: we tore out the old settings menu and built a new one from scratch. The rest is smaller fixes all over the demo.

A new settings menu

  • We rebuilt the settings menu from scratch. It's full-screen now and easier to read, especially on a Steam Deck.

  • Controller navigation got rebuilt with it.

  • Quitting the game now asks for confirmation.

  • New installs start at a better default brightness.

Anomalies

  • Added visual cues to an audio anomaly.

  • One anomaly was almost impossible to spot on low graphics settings. We made it more visible.

  • Fixed an anomaly whose texture broke on Intel Arc graphics cards.

  • Fixed the warden not casting a shadow near certain lights.

  • Fixed the warden sometimes already being out of place at the start of a new run.

  • Bug fixes to an anomaly.

Lighting and graphics

  • Rebuilt the lighting of an anomaly for low-graphics cards.

  • Fixed a couple of objects that are supposed to glow in the dark and didn't.

Stability and fixes

  • Fixed a crash that could hit on the very first launch, while the game was still preparing shaders.

  • Quitting to the menu in the middle of the guided first corridors no longer skips the rest of them when you come back.

That's it for this batch. The rest of our time is going into the full game: performance work and final polish for July 24. The 30% launch discount is still on, and the supporter pack releases alongside the game.

Same deal as last time: if you find something odd in the demo that we didn't put there on purpose, tell us in the discussions. And if you haven't wishlisted Backrooms Anomaly yet, now is a good time. Steam will notify you the moment it's live.

Thanks for playing.
