Aurion: Legacy of the Kori-Odan changes
As gamers, we tend to embody beings who start out as weak, and who over combats, face enemies and lead battles that from the start seemed impossible to win. This creates a great sense of idealism in us.
But!!! Once we get out of there, we face the harshness of life and ‘‘realism’’ that the world throws in our faces, which creates in us a kind of dissonance that we constantly seek to balance. No longer knowing where begins Realism and where idealism and honor end.
The game therefore depicts a conflict between honor and realism, two values which are embodied by two main characters of the game : Enzo (Enkwo) and his ju'u (master) Nama Yode.
Enzo (Enkwo) is an idealistic and optimistic hero, who believes in justice, freedom and fraternity between people. He is guided by his honor, which requires him to respect his commitments, to protect the innocent and to fight evil.
But his idealism borders on utopia and even naivety. Knowing nothing other than his peaceful and sweet city of Zama, he is brutally confronted with the reality of the "outside world" and will face its harshness and the titanic challenges that his rank as King of Zama implies. And his master Nama yode will make it clear to him.
Nama Yode, on the contrary, is an Aurionic master who has renounced her candor to access a higher level of power. She embodies realism which is one of the primary socles in the Yode clan, that is to say objective and rational knowledge of the world.
For her it is necessary to take things for what they are and not for what we think they are (difficult to do, right !?).
She considers that honor is a luxury that only those who have the means to keep it can afford. So one must be strong, very strong in the face of adversity to claim it. Through her power she wants to impose her ideal on the whole world, and she believes that there is no right way to get there, there is only the way that wins.
The game thus offers a reflection on the meaning of life, on the choice between the ideal and the real, between faith and skepticism. The player is led to question his own values, what constitutes his dignity and his greatness of soul. The game also shows that honor and realism are not necessarily incompatible, but that they can complement and reinforce each other.
Enzo (Enkwo) learns throughout his adventure to be realistic, to recognize his limits and his errors, to accept the complexity of the world and its geopolitical issues. Nama Yode, for her part, teaches her student that his honor is sure a beautiful thing, but it must be sublimated with a layer of realism, this to cultivate pragmatism, in order to be able to face evil without ever losing the light that shines in his soul.
