🌱Next Updates | Part 1Steam post image
Hey! Time for changes!
Some time ago, we asked you to fill out surveys about what kind of players you are. Based on that data, as well as all your reviews and comments, we’ve planned the next steps for Astrobotanica’s development. We’re working on major updates that will reshape the core of the game to make it even more enjoyable.
The new update is coming later this month, but we don’t want to keep you in the dark, so we’ve decided to reveal some of the planned changes that will be introduced to the game over the course of the next few updates.
The game structure will now combine survival with metroidvania elements. Access to different parts of the map will require crafting complex tonics, while new biomes will contain rarer plant species with unique properties.
We’re introducing the first small UI changes, including updates to the HUD and map functionality. For now, expect slightly reworked controls adapted to the refreshed interface, as well as the ability to reveal the map through exploration. These are just early steps toward a full UI overhaul.

The most important resource will become “Energy,” used to power machines (CO₂ generator and others) aboard your spaceship. The main source of Energy will be plants, processed into tonics that can fuel ship systems.
We’ve significantly expanded plant interaction mechanics. You’ll be able to pick and eat fruit without scanning it first (though you won’t know its properties - and the outcome might be unpredictable). Scanning itself will now progressively reveal a plant’s aspects and will also require Energy. You’ll need to decide whether to fully scan a plant or conserve Energy.

The aspect system will change to form aspect pairs. This will encourage experimentation to create tonics without negative side effects. As a result, tonic crafting will become a light logical puzzle. In the future, we plan to introduce new aspects, such as “sticky,” which will allow you to bind resources together (e.g., stone or wood).
You will now need to find a way to save Xel’s home planet, which has been devastated by reckless energy extraction. Ancient artifacts hidden in ruins may hold the key to solving this problem.
But that’s not all! You haven’t forgotten about our Webtoon “Sprout Out!”, right? A new episode has just been released - you can read it now by following the link!
