Astrobarian™ changes
What is Version 1.1?
Newest version of the demo is upgraded version from the original 1.0 release containing new features and widened gameplay from original vision. Additionally improvements to some visual elements, world layouts and structures has been made.
Guiding Signs
Original version did not feature any in-game tutorials, but now in 1.1 version includes Guiding signs. Example of that, can be seen from screenshot below.
Guiding signs are optional in-game guides to help better understand the gameplay itself. These guides can be turn On/Off when launching the demo. Guides do not help with the progression itself.
Linux version
To play Linux version, you must select correct application branch, if it is not automatically set.
Right-click the demo in the library, then select Properties.
Click the option called BETAS.
There are two options which are Default and Linux. Click the Linux option, then install.
Known issues:
Controller's D-pad does not register a least for me. Both stick and D-pad should work on menus all time like in windows version.
Mouse does not always lock to the window itself means that camera cannot be turned. So only way to play is with the controller or find the way yourself. I have no idea why this happens, because I have a set mouse to be locked to window for all the time.
Other platforms
Steam Deck & Mac
Because I don't own Steam Deck or Mac, I cannot confirm full functionality for those platforms. There is no Mac version available, but demo can work on Steam Deck.
Technical information
Sound effect and music/ambient volumes are set to 50% by default.
[IMPORTANT] Demo includes adjustable stick dead zone feature for controllers with slight stick drift. By default this setting is 0.5 for both sticks. Controllers have different sensitivity so adjust this option for your liking.
Default buttons are displayed at start and can be seen again from the settings, where those can be reassigned.
It is possible to switch movement control between D-pad and stick.
Demo has automatic screen setup, that detects your current monitor's aspect ratio, then sets UI elements and screen for current aspect ratio. Currently all normal pc monitor aspect ratios are supported. Widest aspect ratio supported is 32:9. If demo is being launched in a unsupported aspect ratio, application will shut down after Unity Splash Screen. Other aspect ratios are added maybe later.
If demo appears to launch on incorrect monitor, please add launch option "-monitor {index}". Example. If you want to display demo on main monitor, add option "-monitor 0".
Old saves don't work with this version.
There max FPS options, but please use default option to play, that is 60. Options were left only for demonstration.
Known issues (All platforms)
Save slot screenshot does not update immediately after save has been created/rewritten.
Unintentional typos can still exist.
(3.6.2026) Spawned enemies BY enemies sometimes don't disappear as they should.
Want to report a bug?
There is an forum for Bugs and Technical Issues, where you can post any error. Please describe your issue best as you can so I can recreate it myself and debug it.
Feedback
(29/5/2026)
There is an open forum for Demo 1.1 feedback, if you have something to say. I was planning to make a forum for gameplay feedback only, but decided that any feedback is welcome.
Thank you in advance.
Updates
Demo will not get any content updates as there are a lot of things already, but it will receive possible improvements as I want this demo to be good as possible. Update notes will be written to this post.
24.5.2026 - Demo 1.1 released.
30.5.2026 - Added Visual C++ 2015-2022 x64 and DirectX June 2010. (Steam automatically installs these on first launch.)

My thoughts
I will update this section later, when I am more sure about my future which impacts this game's development. Currently I am happy to be done with the demo, that I can present.
