Devlog #4 – The Core Fights Back

Hey everyone!

This update is focused on making Astro Company feel smoother, more reactive and more replayable. I’ve been working on performance, new cards, balance changes and several smaller improvements that should make the game feel better during longer runs.

Performance Improvements

One of the biggest goals for this update was improving performance during larger waves.

Since Astro Company is an endless tower defense game, the screen can quickly become filled with enemies, projectiles and effects. I’ve been working on optimizing several systems so the game can handle bigger waves more smoothly, with fewer FPS drops and better stability during intense moments.

The goal is simple:

More chaos on screen, but less performance loss.

New Cards

I’ve also added more cards to increase build variety between runs.

The new cards are meant to give players more choices and create stronger combinations between towers, the Core and global upgrades. Some cards focus on damage, some improve attack speed or projectile behavior, and others help with survival or scaling into later waves.

This should make runs feel less repetitive and give players more reasons to experiment with different strategies.

Combat and Game Feel

This update also includes improvements to combat readability and overall game feel.

As the game gets more chaotic, it is important that players can still understand what is happening. I’ve been adjusting visual feedback, enemy behavior and combat pacing so bigger waves feel intense, but not completely unreadable.

Balance Changes

Several values have been adjusted to make progression feel better across a run.

This includes changes to enemy scaling, rewards, cards and tower balance. The goal is not final balance yet, but to move the game closer to a more satisfying endless roguelike loop where every upgrade choice matters.

Quality-of-Life Improvements

I’ve also made a number of smaller improvements and fixes, including UI adjustments, smoother flow between waves and various polish changes.

These are not always the most visible changes, but they help the game feel cleaner and easier to play.

Bug Fixes

This update also fixes multiple smaller issues found during testing.

Thanks to everyone who has been following the project and giving feedback — it helps a lot.

What’s Next

Next, I want to keep expanding the game with more cards, more enemy variety, stronger progression and more reasons to keep pushing deeper into the endless waves.

Astro Company is still evolving, and this update is another step toward making the game more fun, chaotic and replayable.

Thanks for following the development!
