Ascension Gamebook changes
Ascension Gamebook — Version 4.1
New: Canvas Mode
A second way to read the whole game. Toggle the Theme button to switch between the classic single-page view and Canvas — a full-screen comic-page collage where scenes, art, and prose scatter and stack as you play, with a growing backlog of every illustration you've uncovered. Hold the button to pick themes.
New: Eight visual themes
Night, Medieval, Draconic, Enchanted, Elvish, Volcanic, Tempest, and the new light theme Crystal. Themes can follow the story automatically — chapters and key locations shift the mood on their own — or be pinned manually from the dropdown.
New: Motion & dramatic effects
Canvas pages deal their panels like a thrown hand of cards — scattered, tilted, overlapping, shifting depth as you explore them.
- The game itself reacts at dramatic turnsthe window jolts at fateful moments, defeats send a tremor through the page, and milestones pulse beyond it. Honors your system's reduced-motion preference.
Mini-games overhauled
Tavern Dice Duel — rebalanced flow: both sides now make their opening rolls before any rerolls, and your opponent weighs the risk before committing. Big-screen layout polish.
Reliquary puzzles (all four) — redesigned as 3-slot relic wheels with their own music.
All mini-games now auto-fit the window so buttons are always visible — no more scrolling mid-game.
Sound
Menu and scene ambience resolution.
Music carried across scenes, saves, and resumes.
Story videos and mini-games duck the ambience and hand it back cleanly.
Reading experience
Scene images persist smoothly between text-only passages.
Resuming a save restores the correct scene image.
Game Over has new presentation in both Classic and Canvas modes.
Cleaner startup, steadier video endings, larger default text size, and a chunkier scrollbar on Classic Mode.
Steam
Full achievement support, including progress that follows your Steam account across machines.
Steam Deck: native resolution and fullscreen out of the box.
Under the hood
Save-file integrity protection.
Story-flow fix for troll fight scene and Game Over proofing on loss.
