Feature Discussion: Marathon Mode

While I don’t have a huge roadmap to reveal, there’s one feature I believe would really improve the game: Marathon Mode.

What changed

  • Gameplay
  • UI and audio
  • Events
addedThere isn't a very convenient way to speedrun the entire game without dealing with the hub world and story. While I think that these elements are alright for some categories of speedrunning, I think it would be beneficial to add the ability to mainline the 20 trials back-to-back.
addedA new “Start Marathon” object (Monolith or Tome) appears in the hub, linked to a dedicated leaderboard.
changedInteracting with it teleports you to Front Gate I and starts a marathon timer, shown in a small UI element.
addedNew records you achieve in a trial during marathon mode will save to the game.
addedTimer rules: Only counts time spent inside the trials (not countdowns or waiting in rooms before breaking the start target). Restarting a trial adds all time from that attempt to your total, but allows you to continue the marathon.
changedThere won’t be an achievement for this mode. I want it to be a fun challenge for those interested, not something that completionists are forced into.

Here is how I imagine it will work...

  • A new “Start Marathon” object (Monolith or Tome) appears in the hub, linked to a dedicated leaderboard.

  • Interacting with it teleports you to Front Gate I and starts a marathon timer, shown in a small UI element.

  • After finishing each trial, you’re sent directly to the next, all the way through Frozen Peak I. Once complete you will teleport back to the marathon mode starting point facing the leaderboard.

  • Tomes can’t be opened during a marathon, but you can break the exit target at any time to end your run early.

  • New records you achieve in a trial during marathon mode will save to the game.

  • Timer rules:

    • Only counts time spent inside the trials (not countdowns or waiting in rooms before breaking the start target).

    • Restarting a trial adds all time from that attempt to your total, but allows you to continue the marathon.

  • There won’t be an achievement for this mode. I want it to be a fun challenge for those interested, not something that completionists are forced into.

I’ll be starting implementation soon, but before I dive in I’d love your feedback.

Thanks again for playing and supporting the game! it really means a lot!
