Attention recruits, Steam post image The Galaxy is at war against the Iron Accord, a formidable army of combat robots. You have been recruited to help us defeat the threat and reach before anyone else the Elysium Event, a mysterious signal that appeared at the edge of the galaxy! Steam post image You have to defend your ship and the rest of the fleet against waves of robots using your wits, your skills and your reaction time. Of course you will have weapons, firepower you can upgrade as you progress by spending points your successes afford you. Customise your setup for the type of combat you want to execute against the enemy. But, you can and should also use your surroundings to your advantage. Use your guns to move you around your environment with precision or use the momentum to ram into invading machines. Keep it moving, use the momentum to your advantage. Steam post image
Mastery: Our Roguelite Approach
Appulse’s mix of genre makes it quite unique compared to other roguelites. For example, the ability to aim with your gun and bounce with your flippers adds a lot of dynamism to the gameplay. But we wanted to add something more! We found two ways of doing exactly that.
1 - The recoil
While Appulse still has classic meta progression that will ease your progress through the runs, we also made the choice to give the player movement control with the recoil mechanic. Gaining proficiency of the recoil mechanic each game you play benefits the long-term strategy of the mission, not simply relying on selecting optimal perks for your builds.
2 - Motherships and Shuttles
In Appulse, you can finish a run on a single mothership, there are multiple to choose from so it makes each of them a different path to completing a run. While the enemy waves will be similar, the Ship's mission, defense mechanism and visuals are vastly different. This will encourage changing builds and strategies to utilize the recoil, based on the main ship. To keep the classic room choice during your run, we introduced Shuttles. They are side ships you will choose to create your fleet. Contrary to classic roguelite rooms, they stay with you as the run progresses. They each have different missions and unlock specific powers to enhance your arsenal. Appulse is all about mastery. Whether that is through gaining knowledge and utilizing the environment of each mothership, including shuttles into your strategy, mastering the recoil or optimizing the upgrade choices you make. You are in control. Steam post image
