Devlog #1: Lili and Sadi🍃

⚔️ Starting off with our reluctant Guardian, Lili! ⚔️

Lili's story begins in Atarassia's peaceful ancient forests. Raised by her loving mother, she knew only the company of spirits, ethereal beings native to Atarassia. This isolated upbringing shaped her into someone who found solace in solitude, as she never connected with other humans.

Like her mother, Lili was being trained to be a Guardian: a protector of Atarassia. Guardians have a duty to ensure the safety of Atarassia's spirits. Though Guardians are trained in many weapons, Lili’s chosen weapon is her mother’s sword. Steam post image

Her life changed when Aferi emerged from the shadows. Her mother, who was a sworn Guardian, fought against him and lost her life in the process. The loss of her mother has left her with no desire to save anyone. She no longer wishes to be a Guardian, nor to be hailed as a hero. But if the world can ever hope to be saved, she must take on this role. Steam post image

To fulfill her responsibilities to Atarassia, Lili must make peace with her own grief. She believes that she’s responsible for her mother’s death, so why should she become a Guardian? Any further involvement would just make things worse... Right? At least, that's what she believed. It is only through Sadi's insistence that Lili decides to take on the journey of a Guardian, and while she won't be able to bring her mother back... Steam post image

She will learn what it means for the world to rely on her, and for her to rely on others.

🤜 Next up, our Monk-in-training Sadi! 🤛

Sadi, like all the other monks in Atarassia, grew up in the Monastery, where monks dedicate their lives to understanding the world's deepest mysteries. Here, he immersed himself in both the creative and arcane arts, spending countless hours studying the history of Atarassia through sacred scriptures that hold the secrets of ages past. His training led him to emphasize on patience, care, and the bond between souls. While Guardians serve as Atarassia's protectors, Monks are its caretakers. Their sacred duties involve tending to the spirits and safeguarding the Sap that flows through all living beings. Together, these two roles form partnerships designed to protect the world against the Void. Steam post image

Sadi embodied these teachings perhaps too well. His unwavering dedication to his responsibilities, combined with his naturally uptight attitude, created a barrier between him and potential friendships. While other monks found balance between duty and connection, Sadi chose isolation, believing that "duty over desires" was the only path worth walking. This philosophy would prove to be both his greatest strength and his biggest weakness.

When Aferi appeared, the monks tried to fight him but were overcame by his devastating power. The Monastery suffered heavy casualties, leaving only Sadi as the sole survivor. Just like Lili, he blames himself for failing to save his fellow monks from Aferi's attack, wracked by survivor's guilt. He often questions his worth, if a failure like him can truly become a proper guide for a Guardian...

Throughout their journey, Sadi must overcome his shame, grow in confidence, and eventually realize he has his own wishes for his life beyond his responsibilities.
