Greetings fellow mages!
It’s been 2 months since I revealed AlterMage, and I wanted to share some updates here on Steam about where the game is at and what I’ve been working on since then. I'll be posting updates here more frequently now that I'm getting into a solid development groove, but if you are interested in even more AlterMage stuff like news, updates, or just wanna chat, then definitely stop by one of the social media pages I've setup for the game! Upcoming playtests
For the last several months my focus has been on preparing the game for playtesting. The playtests will be a huge help for me to detect and iron out any rough edges early on, and it will give players a chance to share their ideas about what they think would make the game even better. With many months of development still ahead, there is a lot of time to incorporate feedback to alter the course of the game, and I plan to take full advantage of that!
What to expect
For the playtests, I am aiming to provide a high-quality vertical slice of the game that is representative of the full game's experience. For me this has meant focusing development on the following core areas:
Gameplay Features (new spells, staff components, melee weapons, enemies, upgrades)
World Design (more complex and interconnected areas, more secrets to find)
Graphical Fidelity (better 3D models, textures, particle effects, shaders)
Quality of Life (full controller support, control remapping, bug fixes, other nice to haves)
Get in on the action!
Playtesting will be getting started in the coming weeks with a small private group first, followed by some limited public playtesting after. If you are interested in trying AlterMage early and giving your feedback, feel free to reach out on social media or email (justin@altermage.com) and I'll try to include you in one of the early rounds!
Wrapping things up...
It's crazy to see how far things have come over the last year, and I wanted to share one of my older (and somewhat more embarrassing) screenshots of the game to show where things were, and where they are at currently. There is still a lot of work ahead, but I'm excited to see what the game will look and play like at launch!
