New Playtest Build – Crafting, New NPC, and Major Improvements
A new playtest build for After the End is now live, bringing a major set of new systems, content, and improvements to the game.
This update focuses on expanding gameplay systems, deepening the world, and continuing to refine the overall experience based on player feedback.
Crafting System (Now Available)
A full crafting system has been added.
Players can now combine resources to create useful items directly through simple recipes. This is an early implementation, and while recipes are functional, there is currently no in-game guide yet.
Part of the experience right now is experimentation and discovery.
Available recipes include:
Healing Herb → Yarrow Bundle + Scrap Cloth
Ale → Barley Bundle + Wild Honey
Berserker Sap → Ambered Sap + Wild Honey
Vardr Brew → Seer Root + Wild Honey
Additional recipes exist but require systems that are not yet implemented (such as specific crafting stations).
New NPC & Quests
A brand new NPC has been added to the world, bringing new quests and narrative content.
This expands the early experience and adds more direction while continuing to build out the larger story.
Harvestable Plants
Plants are now fully implemented as harvestable resources that regrow over time.
This helps support the crafting system while making the world feel more alive and reactive.
World & Visual Improvements
The world has received another pass with:
More environmental detail
Increased prop variety
Additional visual storytelling elements
These changes aim to make exploration feel more rewarding and the world feel more lived-in.
Dungeon Balance & Improvements
Dungeon areas have been adjusted and improved with:
Better balance
More visual detail
Improved overall flow
Audio Improvements
New ambient sound effects for beaches and environments
Improvements to overall atmosphere
Music System Fixes
Fixed multiple issues with the music system, including timing and playback problems, resulting in smoother transitions and more consistent audio behavior.
Bug Fixes & General Improvements
Fixed multiple quest-related bugs
Improved overall stability
General polish across systems
Ongoing Development
This build is another step toward a more complete experience. Systems are continuing to expand, and more content is being added regularly.
If you haven’t joined the playtest yet, you can request access directly on the store page.
And if you're interested in the project, adding the game to your wishlist helps a lot.
More updates coming soon.
