This is the Aeruta development team.

Recently, we had the honor to speak with Shuhei Yoshida, a legend in the indie gaming world and current Executive Director of yosp Inc. The interview took place on the main stage at Taipei Game Show 2026.

We were a little nervous to be in the presence of such a highly esteemed person, but we managed to talk about many topics including the attention to detail that went into developing Aeruta and the trial and errors that come with being a small team. Today we'd like to share some highlights from the interview with all of you!

Why did you choose the "bakery" theme?

The moderator of the interview, Daniel Robson, posed us the question, "Why did you choose bread out of all the different dishes?" To us, bread isn't just a recovery item or a commodity; it's a symbol of warmth. A place where Chaya returns to from her adventures, surrounded by fragrant aromas and warm smiles. We wanted to express that kind of "comfortable place," so we chose the theme of a bakery. Incidentally, another big reason was that everyone on the team loves bread!

Making two games as a team of five

Aeruta combines authentic action with a detailed management simulation. Yoshida asked a pointed question regarding this: "Was it difficult to create two genres as a team of five people?"

Early in development, the game actually had much more metroidvania elements. However, among the five members of our team, some preferred action games, while others preferred management games. After much discussion about what would we all be passionate enough to continue creating, we arrived at our current form. The thrilling feeling of action and the joy of management… Without compromising on either, we worked hard to achieve the current balance, aiming to perform the work of ten people with five.

Players' voices became our sun

At the end of our conversation, we touched on the rigors of indie development. During the five-year development period, we lacked resources and there were many nights when we wondered if our decisions were correct. What supported us at times like those were the feedback we received through Early Access.

Support on social media and reviews on Steam are the best source of energy for us, as they make us feel like everyone is a part of making this game. As we mentioned in our conversation, after long nights of development, the moment the game is completed and reaches everyone feels like a sunrise.

We recently had the honor to receive the "Best Visual Art Award" in the Indie category at this year’s Taipei Game Show. However, we still have a long way to go. Going forward, with Yoshida's words of anticipation in mind, we will continue to update the world of Aeruta to make it even better and more enjoyable!

We'd like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who continues to support us. See you next time in-game (whether in the bakery or a treacherous dungeon)!

We hope you will continue to support Aeruta!
