26 Moves: The Queen's Plot changes
Welcome to our very first official devlog for 26 Moves: The Queen's Plot! We are incredibly excited to start sharing our development journey with you. From now on, if all goes well, we will be giving you a glimpse into our game’s development every two weeks.
The Big Pivot: Moving to 100% Hand-Drawn Art If you’ve been following our early teases, you might notice something completely different today. We made a massive decision regarding our visuals: we completely dropped our old 3D/vector setup.
Initially, we were blocking out the scenes using 3D models, converting them into SVG files, and then bringing them into Krita for coloring. However, the final result simply didn't express who we are as creators, and it didn't fit the vision and quality we want for this game.
Because of this, we shifted our workflow to a 100% hand-drawn art style. Every single street, room, and alley is now being meticulously drawn line-by-line in Krita. It is a massive amount of extra work, but the moment we saw the results using this technique, we knew it was the right choice.
Bringing the World to Life inside Godot Great art needs the right environment to shine. This past week, we brought our fresh hand-drawn scenes into the Godot engine. To build up the perfect atmosphere, we implemented full fog effects and started placing our characters into the world. Seeing the characters and the fog blend with the hand-drawn scenes creates exactly the kind of feeling we were looking for.
A Glimpse into the Gameplay: Two Protagonists While we are pouring our hearts into the visuals, we are also fine-tuning the core experience. 26 Moves: The Queen's Plot is a point & click adventure set in 1907, featuring a unique gameplay twist: the player controls two main protagonists who, in the story, are actually pit against each other. You will be playing as them alternatively each day, navigating through a journey of mystery and conspiracy where absolutely nothing is what it seems.
What’s Next? We are just getting started, and we would love to hear your thoughts on this new visual direction! How do you like the new look? Let us know in the comments below.
If you want to support our journey, please consider adding the game to your Steam Wishlist. It helps us immensely!
See you in two weeks, Danari Games Team
