Hi everyone, It’s been a long time since our last proper update and I want to speak openly about where things stand with Towns.
Back in 2014, development stopped. Burnout and personal struggles made it difficult to continue the project in a healthy way.
Since then, many of you have reached out with genuine interest in contributing, learning from or even continuing the work yourselves.
Until now, I had always chosen to keep it private, however I think it’s time to change that.
What’s changing
We’re releasing the full source code of Towns
- This includes the core game code along with basic game data files (.ini, .xml, etc.). https://github.com/supermalparit/Towns
- We’re lowering the price of the game to around $5
This reflects the current state of the project and makes it more accessible for those who are curious or want to explore it.
Why this decision
Towns wouldn’t exist without this community. Over the years, I’ve seen ideas, mods, and discussions that showed just how much potential people saw in it.
Releasing the source code is a way to:
- Give back to the community
- Let others learn from or build upon the project
- Allow Towns to continue in whatever form the community wants to take it
A small note
The code reflects a real, imperfect development journey, so it’s not polished in many places. I hope it can still be useful, whether for modding, learning or experimentation.
Thank you for your patience, your support and your passion over the years. It truly meant more than I was able to express at the time.
I’m looking forward to seeing what you all might do with this.
Community
If you build something interesting, feel free to share it on the Discord server.
It's also the place to discuss ideas, mods, and the future of Towns with other contributors.
Thanks to everyone who has been part of this project.
