In celebration of International Women’s Day, Shipping Manager honors Mary Sears and the women who helped shape modern maritime operations.

For a limited time, enjoy 10% off fuel and CO2 costs, making it easier to run efficient shipping routes.

Who is Mary Sears?

Mary Sears was an American oceanographer who helped invent modern oceanography - and did it while quietly breaking a bunch of rules about who was “allowed” to do science.

During World War II, she became a top expert for the U.S. Navy, figuring out tides, currents, and ocean conditions so ships and submarines could actually survive their missions.

Mary helped build the systems, research programs, and scientific community that turned oceanography into a serious, coordinated field. That’s why she’s often called the “Mother of Modern Oceanography.”

Oh, and she did all this in an era when women weren’t even supposed to be on ships.
