Today, we'll acquaint ourselves with the ancient - a world where the age of steel has never begun to stir, and neither will it. The story takes us far below...
Beneath the mountains, beyond the light of the sun or moon, lies Ne-no-kuni - the Land of Roots.
It lies deep beneath the living world - not a hell or a place of punishment, but a wellspring of primordial power: a shadowed mirror of the living world where death, rebirth, and magic are all connected. The roots of the earth itself pulse, like the world's unseen veins, as they draw strength from this forbidden spirit realm.
Long ago, when the world atop the earth was still known as the Central Land of Reed Plains, a descendant of the mighty lord of storms undertook a perilous journey to Ne-no-kuni to seek help from his ancestor. Legends still speak of the deadly and insidious trials he underwent in that secret land, of the wife he found there, and the treasures he took from the world hidden behind the veil of death to become the ruler of the terrestrial realm.
And now, in an age when acrid gunsmoke stains the air, a handful of wanderers are about to walk down into legend. Will you be able to lead them through? After all, it is rumored that travellers who pass through Ne-no-kuni vanish to never be seen again, or return decades later, marked by the echoing timelessness of the underworld...
