Well, this was somewhat unexpected. When I started working on this project back in 2022, I assumed I had my whole life figured out. Turns out I didn't, and in 2023, not long before finishing the project, some things happened in my personal life that forced me into pausing the work on this game after years of struggles and strifes.
I can proudly say that as of today (2nd May 2026), development on the project has finally resumed. The project is having some direction changes from how it was looking in 2023, and I wanted to talk about them here. If you don't mind me rambling, of course.
The Tactical Aspect When I first started working on Last Hope, I had the vision of making my favorite game but without the bugs, glitches, and AAA studio greed that plagued it, as well as integrating some of my own personal ideas for what I think would "save" that game. I have decided to take the game in a different direction and be more of an homage to my favorite FPS games. Not just that one. The tactical 5v5 aspect of the game will be changing slightly; some modes will now have up to 15v15 battles on medium-sized maps, so there is always some absolute carnage to engage in.
The One-Shot Headshot Don't worry, this isn't going anywhere. I feel like this is one of the things that keeps Last Hope standing out in a sea of CoD clones. Those features that I took from my favorite game — one-shot headshots, the in-depth wall penetration, the tactical leaning — they make it stand out. But I want to add features from other FPS games that I enjoyed growing up, such as a tactical sprint mechanic. This will all be in the next playtest update, which I hope to drop at some point in the next 24 hours.
Game Modes I want to add more game modes: things like TDM, Kill Confirmed, maybe even a Gun Game? Gun Game was always my favorite mode. I intend on keeping ranked gameplay, so those who want to climb leaderboards, flex their MMR, and dominate in a competitive environment still have their place like I always intended. Testing for that will be coming to the playtest shortly, as well as an actual matchmaking queue.
New Release Date I originally set out to release Last Hope on Aug 9th,
We're obviously a little behind that. I haven't truly set a new release date yet. But I'm hoping to know within the next couple of weeks (once I'm back in the groove of developing with Unreal Engine again) when exactly I can finish this project and get it out to you wonderful people. I'm hoping to avoid launching in Early Access; that doesn't feel right for me with this type of game.
For those of you who were interested in Last Hope before development paused: I truly am sorry for making you wait this long. I'm also truly sorry for the lack of communication, updates, or really anything over the last almost three years. I'm back in the driving seat now, and I'm seeing this project through until completion.
Now it truly is time for you to be humanity's Last Hope.
