Hi everyone
I’ve decided to lower the price of An Other Golf Game. This wasn’t a quick decision, but one I’ve been thinking about for some time. I’ve spent countless hours building this strange little world, experimenting, writing code, creating systems, and shaping something I thought would be fun, different, and worth sharing. But in the end, the player base has stayed very small, and it’s hard to watch something you’ve poured so much of yourself into remain mostly unseen. I think part of that comes down to accessibility, and for me, that starts with price.
We live in a time where almost everything is getting more expensive. Food, rent, gas, and even games keep climbing in cost, while corporations raise prices and often offer less in return. People are left with fewer choices, not just for entertainment but for daily essentials. I really don’t want to play into that cycle as it's truly disgusting at its core. If big studios are raising prices to keep up with their costs, perhaps the best way forward for me is to do the opposite. Lowering the price feels like the right move to make the game more accessible to people who might otherwise skip it, and maybe it’s a small way of pushing back against that trend.
On a personal level, I also have to be honest with myself: I don’t have the same free time I once did. These days I might get an hour or two each week to work on the game, and that makes progress much slower than I’d like. Updates will come, but sadly they won’t be as frequent as the early days when I could dedicate myself fully. This isn’t a studio backed project with a team. It’s just me, working on it when I can. And that’s okay. What matters most to me now is that the work I’ve already put in can reach more players and maybe bring them some enjoyment.
To those who supported the game early on and paid the higher price: seriously, thank you. I know it’s never fun to see a price drop after you’ve already invested, and I really hope this doesn’t feel like a slight. Your support has truly meant more than you know, and without it, the game wouldn’t have made it this far. My hope is that this change helps grow the community, however small, and keeps the spirit of the game alive.
Times are tough for everyone, myself included, but I believe accessibility matters more than squeezing every dollar out of the game. Lowering the price isn’t a step back. It’s simply a way to make sure more people have the chance to experience it if they want to. <3 waxycaps
